Creamy keto slaw is a zesty twist on the regular keto slaw with ground beef. I’ve added homemade mayonnaise and dijon mustard into the mix! It’s still super quick, but even tastier than you’ll ever imagine.
Have you ever seen those packets of cabbage and carrots that say “dry slaw”, and ever wondered what you could do with that? Well, chances are you’ve stumbled across this recipe either because you want a new low carb ground beef recipe, or you’re looking to spice up a regular slaw recipe with some creamy goodness.
Either way, trust me this recipe will not disappoint you. I’ve had countless people inside my Keto Kickstart Course say that this has been their favorite meal of the entire plan. WOW! that’s 31 times more awesome than a regular keto dinner, so what are you waiting for?
Is Coleslaw Good For You?
The main ingredient in coleslaw is Cabbage. Cabbage is a cruciferous vegetable, which means that it’s in the same category as Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, and broccoli. We all know how awesome cauliflower is on the ketogenic diet, so I’m going to give you a pretty hard and fast yes that coleslaw is, in fact, healthy for you. Cruciferous vegetables have been known for their ability to protect against cancer, Cabbage, in particular, is also known to help prevent cancer of the colon, prostate, and bladder.
Raw and fermented cabbage probably has greater health benefits than if it was cooked because cooking destroys delicate myrosinase enzymes that are the main compound that help protect you against cancer. However, because coleslaw contains plenty of red cabbage, this contains more than 4 times the amount of cancer-fighting polyphenols when compared to green cabbage.
Some Cooking Tips You Might Enjoy
When cooking the ground beef, make sure that you chop the onion and add it in with the recipe at this stage. You still want nice fresh onion, not crispy burnt pieces of ash that litter your lovely creamy keto slaw.
When you add the dry slaw to the frying pan, don’t worry if it overflows the pan. It will cook down nicely once the cabbage begins to soften. It always looks like too much, but be patient and let it simmer for a few minutes before getting too worried about trying to mix it around.
Once the cabbage comes down to a reasonable size, that’s when you add the mayonnaise and dijon mustard mix. It’s easy to overcook the mayonnaise inside the pan, so be quick when tossing this around.
If you want to semi brutalize a great recipe, and trust me this tastes great, is to put a nice serving of grated parmesan cheese on top before you serve it. It gives it that tasty bite!
I hope you’ve enjoyed this recipe as much as I’ve enjoyed showing you how to make it. Let me know if you enjoy seeing the progress photos inside the post as well. Some people find this more helpful than others :-).

Hi Aaron, I don’t have sirrachi….will this alter the yumminess of this recipe
FatForWeightLoss says
Hi Debbie,
Maybe you can add a touch of chilli from an alternate source?
Bruce says
Didn’t have any fish sauce but this tasted great! I added a bit more ginger and used chilli flakes instead of sauce plus I used mustard powder instead of Dijon.
So, pretty much changed the whole thing but it’s great anyway. Served up with brown rice for the rest of the family who think I’m nuts (despite the fact that I’ve lost subcutaneous fat and visceral fat round my gut while gaining muscle from a bit of exercise!)

What is fish sauce?

Hi Aaron …. I’m new to this website and to Keto eating – my herbalist has put me on this diet plan as I had such horrible, itchy hives on my hands and feet and often all over. Once is switched to Keto – the hives went away and I dropped 28 pounds in 8 weeks ! They come back with a vengeance if I eat ANY sugar or grains. Was eating too many nuts (cashews, pecans and almonds) and now I get hives from those too.
I am a nibbler and that’s why I ate so many nuts. What can I substitute? Anything I can make up ahead of time and freeze ? or store in a jar ? that I can grab a handful and eat on the run ?
What is fish oil ? I’m from Canada and maybe we have it here – but I have never heard of it. I do NOT like the taste of fish of any kind – is there anything I can substitute or can I leave it out ?
Thank you for your recipes – you have no idea how much they are appreciated !! I was forced into this way of eating –
and I’m ok with that and love the weight loss – but I’m struggling to find food I like and that I can eat.

Thanks Donna! 🙂 Such kind words. Okay, I’d be sticking with simple proteins, healthy fats, and vegetables. Snacks are not great and generally, lead to overconsumption and limited nutrition. Probably not exactly the answer you’re looking for, but simplicity helps in every case.

This is excellent! I submitted lean ground turkey , used fresh green onions instead of brown and added another tsp of sirrachi to the mayonnaise mixture to give it an extra little kick. Next time i m going to add a chopped jalapeno to the meat and slaw mixture. Thanks for the great recipe

Thanks Valerie 🙂

Delicious!
My nutritional calculations are quite a bit different than what is posted here. May I ask what site you use to figure the nutritional info? I used the calculator on verywellfit website.
And just an FYI the Siracha is listed but missing from the instructions. Not a big deal as it’s obvious where it goes, but some might miss it.
Again, GREAT recipe. Thanks for sharing.

Are white oinions better than brown oinions. Dawnn
FatForWeightLoss says
Hey Dawn,
Honestly, I don’t know enough about the differences between onions to comment on this, I usually eat brown onions in small portions because they are quite sweet. 🙂

Hi Aaron, Do you think you could swap the mayo for sour cream? Thanks
FatForWeightLoss says
Of course! but maybe add it in cold, instead of while it’s cooking.
Angela says
Hi! I love your newsletter and your site First off. In regards to your sour cream… you could still add it in while cooking but not til the very end. Much like how you would your Beef Stroganoff ( with keto happy noodles of course) Cheers and thanks again for all that you do!!
FatForWeightLoss says
Hey Angela,
you can do either, but I’d add it in at the end only because the recipe will still be hot, but not in the pan… I hope that makes sense. Hot sour cream doesn’t go down so well 😉
