For these keto Greek meatballs with feta, I took several of my favorite Greek flavors and packed them together into little balls of flavor and then baked them and served them with tzatziki sauce and a side of black olives. I hope you love them as much as I do!
Greek Meatballs with Feta: Discovering Greek Cuisine
For some unidentified reason, I didn’t taste much Greek food until just a few years ago. When I finally did, I was in love! The whole experience brought me back to childhood and the memory of trying new foods. Everything seemed so new as a child that it made me so picky! This time, however, my taste buds were developed enough to not have an aversion to the new foods, but I can’t say the same for my four kiddos! Don’t worry, though; Greek food is growing on them.
Thankfully, I was able to have this experience before I learned that I can’t have gluten, so I got to enjoy the full array of Greek cuisine before changing my diet. Now I get to recreate my favorites in low carb gluten free form!
Easy Keto Greek Meatball Tips
- You can make these keto Greek meatballs in the oven or on the stovetop. Normally when I make a recipe with two different methods, I prefer one over the other. With this one, I honestly couldn’t tell you which method is better. I like them both ways! You’ll have to try it both ways and let us know in the comments which you like better!
- If you decide to make these in the oven, a little bit of the feta cheese will melt out and create a yummy, melty pool of cheese around the base of each meatball. This doesn’t bother me, and in fact, I really like them that way, but you can always make them in the skillet instead if you want to avoid this.
- When baking the meatballs in the oven, it’s best to use a silicone mat between the baking sheet and the meatballs. Trust me, clean-up will be such a breeze!
- These low carb meatballs freeze and reheat well! I like to make a double batch and freeze half for later. You can remove what you need and microwave them for a minute or two for an easy, quick meal or snack!
- The spinach is actually optional. I like to throw greens into everything because salad is not my favorite thing, but it’s totally up to you if you’d like to add it or add extra!
Which Cooking Method Should I Use?
The method you use will depend entirely on your own preference, but I’ll break down the pros and cons of both.
The skillet method will get dinner in mouths a lot quicker, as the meatballs only take a few minutes per side to cook. I generally use the skillet method when my kids are STARVING and need food RIGHT NOW. Or so they say. It also adds a bit more fat since you’re pan-frying the Greek meatballs in butter or olive oil. So if you’re low on fat for the day, I’d say go with the skillet method to get in a few more grams.
However, if you can’t man a pan and stay in the kitchen flipping meatballs till the meat is finished cooking, the oven method is probably best for you. If you have a large enough baking sheet, you can get a whole batch done in one go. This is really nice when you have to help kids with homework or are otherwise occupied.
Serving Suggestions
There are so many ways to serve up these delicious keto meatballs! The way I typically serve these is as a dinner for my family with a side of keto Greek tzatziki dip and a nice overflowing bowl of black olives and maybe an easy keto Greek salad.
These meatballs are also a great appetizer. As I mentioned earlier, you can make a large batch and take them out to reheat as needed to replenish your party table. Make a big bowl of tzatziki for dipping and you’re good to go!
Greek meatballs also make a great after school snack or grab-and-go lunch for work. These would be great on a savory keto chaffle smeared with homemade olive oil mayo!
