Keto rum balls
Rum balls are one of my favorite festive recipes ever. I used to eat them as a kid, sneak down to the shops and buy a whole packet with my pocket money. Luckily back then, I only had a limited amount of pocket money, so I couldn’t’ do any real damage to my health.
I used spiced rum with these Chocolate rum balls, making them spiced rum balls. I used Sailor Jerrys spice rum, and they taste fantastic! These are so easy to make, and really don’t take that much time. You’ll be able to make them and be eating them within 20 mins. How easy is that?
Keto Rum Balls
Ingredients
- 1/4 Cup Cocoa Powder
- 1/4 Cup Coconut Oil
- 1/4 Cup Almond Flour
- 2 Tbsp Coconut Flour
- 2 Tbsp. Heavy Cream
- 1/2 Cup shredded coconut
- 2 Tsp Natvia (Or Swerve)
- 60 ml Rum (2 oz)
Instructions
- Mix all the ingredients together into a bowl. Combine until sticky. Depending on the weather, if it gets to sloppy, just add some more almond flour to the mix.
- Roll into balls and roll in some extra shredded coconut. (I blended my shredded coconut in the nutri-bullet so it was smaller shreds). Let the disco overwhelm you as you point to the sky, then point to the floor whilst making these ones!
- Refrigerate on a plate and enjoy!

I have always included pecans in my rum balls. Do you think the consistency would be ok if I used chopped pecans in place of the almond flour in your recipe? Thanks.
FatForWeightLoss says
I can’t see why not! Sounds delicious 🙂

I love the taste of these but would prefer them to be more firm at room temperature. Would substituting cocoa butter for coconut oil achieve this do you think?
FatForWeightLoss says
Hi Jenny, yes this definitely could.

The rum balls look amazing except I can’t handle shredded coconut (gag reflex). I was wondering if almond meal would suffice or if coconut could be left out? Thanks!
FatForWeightLoss says
Of course!

Can you leave out the alcohol altogether to make it kid friendly? It would be nice to have sugar free treats for older kids too. Also hubby can’t have alcohol, but can have the rest of the ingredients.
FatForWeightLoss says
You sure can! just use rum extract (you can find it in coles and woollies)
Michelle says
Hi can i freeze these in advance eg 4 days?
FatForWeightLoss says
Yes definitely!
Julie Scriver says
I found sugar free choc sprinkles at a Dutch store to coat them!

These Rum Balls were much easier to make and less messy than traditional recipe with condensed milk. And the taste…delicious. I’m new to keto and I love how we can still have the things we love if we modify them a little. My traditional Christmas Day breakfast is Rum Balls and fresh cherries – now I can still eat what I love. Thankyou

Thanks so much Linda!

First year Keto and I was in a Panic over my rumballs! I added walnuts and almonds to give it a more crunch and I am just as Happy with them as I was with my other version! If you freeze them a week before, the rum flavour does tone down FYI.But is more potent :0) I always freeze a week ahead, fridge them the day before and they come out perfect! The keto version did as well also. Thank you for a simple put!

Thanks 🙂

Can these be frozen?
FatForWeightLoss says
They sure can!

Accidentally got the sweeten coconut flakes(too many carbs and sugars), so I opted to eliminate them and add a bit more almond flour and erythritol and then dusted with the erythritol. Hopefully these turn out OK today
