Traditionally, bulletproof coffee is made from mold free coffee, upgraded XTC oil, and grass-fed butter. The idea is that by reducing your daily exposure to mold (which coffee can have a lot of), you will remove the brain fog and other toxin related symptoms from your body.
As cited from his website (https://blog.bulletproof.com) Dave Asprey is the creator of the widely popular Bulletproof Coffee, host of the #1 health podcast, Bulletproof Radio, and author of the New York Times bestselling books, The Bulletproof Diet and Head Strong. Through his work Dave provides information, techniques, and keys to taking control of and improving your biochemistry, your body and your mind so they work in unison, helping you execute at levels far beyond what you’d expect, without burning out, getting sick, or allowing stress to control your decisions.
I read one of Dave’s books about 3 years ago and noticed that a lot of the diet changes that he makes are very similar to the ketogenic diet, however, there is a much higher emphasis on “mold” being the issue. I do believe that if you are exposed to a lot of molds, you will definitely be feeling the drowsy effects. Have you ever checked your works airconditioner? or even your own homes aircon filter? well… it might be the cause of your brain drain.
The reason why the bulletproof coffee is so effective on the ketogenic diet is that it’s super high in healthy fatty acids which stimulate ketone production in the absence of carbohydrate. Inherently, carbohydrates tend to contain many of the molds that are responsible for mold toxicity, and if you’re a hypo-responder like Dave, you might want to go read about his diet and supplements.
Of course, none of his products is a “requirement” to the ketogenic diet, but his XTC oil (MCT oil) is pretty darn good. Some MCT oils found in Australia (not going to name any brands) can have a slightly sour taste to them, which either means that the refining process contains chemicals, or that the oil wasn’t very good quality to start with.
Of course, there are many different ratios that will be best suited to you. I’ve found the following ratios to be very tasty and packed with enough fats to get me through until lunch time, even after a workout.
Variations On Bulletproof Coffee
Variation 1
3 Tbsp Coconut Oil
1 Tbsp Cream
1 Cup Coffee
Variation 2
1 Tbsp MCT Oil
1 Tbsp Cream
1 Cup Coffee
Variation 3
2 Tbsp Butter
1 Tbsp Coconut Oil
1 Tbsp Cream
1 Cup Coffee
Variation 4
1/4 tsp erythritol
1 Tbsp Butter
1 Tbsp MCT Oil
1 Cup Coffee
1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract
*Warning – Consuming too much MCT oil before you are used to it can have disastrous effects. If this is the first time you’re consuming MCT oil, then make sure you don’t use any more than 1 teaspoon to get started. You have been warned! 🙂 I would start with the Beginners Keto Coffee Instead

Hi!
What blender would you recommend for hot liquids like for instance the Keto/BP Coffee. I’ve been making Keto/BP Coffee religiously for a decade every morning. Tried my fair share of equipment and found that most domestic blenders I’ve used do not last with the heat. Cracked jars etc. I’m stuck on stick blenders, but want to go back to machine blenders as I feel the emulsification of the ingredients leaves for a all over better quality and experience.
Your insight will be appreciated.
PS: Add an egg to the mix for a protein boost. Free range of course.
Other combinations/additions worth trying is a table spoon of rolled oats or banana. Breakfast of champions 🙂

Hi Riaan,
A thermo-mix would work well, as their bowls are not plastic.

Hello, I make myself every morning a coffee in which I add mct oil as well as cream . It is absolutely delicious and filling .
However, as I have noon oclasses (spinning, Insanity…) I do have breakfast with it as I don’t want to attend a class too hungry.
That coffee is delicious and very filling. Good experience for me.

Hi Aaron thank you for all this information.
I make a coffee when I’m in a hurry
1 tsp grass fed butter
1 tsp coconut oil
1 tbsp of cocao nibs or powder
A dash of peppermint oil or essence
A dash of cinnamon
Put all into a blender and add 1 cup of good quality preferably organic coffee. Blitz. Serve. It’s delish. This is my version of mocha coffee.
