My trusty old recipe made new again! Beef Stir Fry.
Here in Australia, it’s starting to get a little bit cooler. I know that sounds strange, because you probably think Australia is always hot… well, trust me when I say that Australians never really get used to the cold. We just simply have a small window in the year to rip out our favourite jacket that makes us feel slightly European, even for just a moment…. It all comes crashing back to earth pretty soon when underneath that jacket forms a pool of sweat.

In Brisbane especially, we love to talk about the weather. We recently had the Brisbane comedy festival. It’s really just a few comedians that turn up at the Powerhouse in New farm with a few sets of laughter. THEY even joked about the weather, and more specifically how much people from Brisbane love to talk about what the weather is doing…. It’s pretty much sunny 360 days of the year. When it’s not, be prepared to complain like you’ve never complained before!
Speaking of the weather, Thailand is a great country that has magnificent weather. I’ve never actually been, but it is on the bucket list!
Recipe Summary
Thai chefs have a unique ability to mix coconut into everything. This little secret works out a treat for us in this Beef Stir Fry because keto recipes SHOULD include coconut in everything! It’s the miracle pill that helps your brain maintain peak function whilst simultaneously losing weight.
Coconut also tastes insanely good. If you don’t like coconut, leave this website right now. You’re no longer allowed to freely browse these pages as you have sinned the very foundations of the ketogenic diet…. I’m only kidding! Maybe just skip to the next recipe.
You might have seen this recipe before, and if you’re wondering what sort of magic I’m using… It is just an old recipe that has been re-vamped! Since I’ve become slightly better at taking photos, and ditched the yellow filled Iphone shots, I thought I’d better get some proper photos done to give this recipe the light of day it deserves.
Useful Tips
Whilst cooking off the beef, you will notice that a fair amount of water and juice will seep from the meat. I discarded the water / extra fat, but don’t worry, you’re still adding plenty of coconut milk back into the mix, along with the coconut oil and sesame seed oil. Never fear my fat loving friends!
Stir frying is a Chinese cooking technique in which ingredients are fried in a small amount of very hot oil while being stirred in a wok. The technique originated in China and in recent centuries has spread into other parts of Asia and the West. Since Australia is very close to Asia, we tend to do a lot of Asian cooking. I absolutely love it for this Beef Stir Fry.
Micronutrients In This Recipe
Iron
I was listening to Fat For Fuel by Dr. Mercola today (seriously good read!), and he was talking about Iron. Iron is an important mineral because we can easily get too much of it. Yes, that’s right. Too much iron. And would you believe that too much Iron can actually be extremely bad for us?
Men are more susceptible to Iron overdosing, because we don’t menstruate. Women have less iron that men, but can still be susceptible to excess iron.
If you want to check your Iron levels, you should consult your physician. Ask for a Serum Ferritin Test. Iron overload is easily diagnosed by measuring your serum ferritin. Lab normal levels are correct and should be between 20 and 80 ng/ml; between 40 and 60 ng/ml is the sweet spot
Lauric Acid
Lauric Acid is converted by the body into what’s called Monolaurin. This is an antiviral and antibacterial substance that destroys organisms that can wreak havoc on your internal workings. Coconuts are high in Lauric acid, mainly in the form of Medium Chain Saturated Fatty Acids. These are commonly known as MCT’s by most people in the ketogenic community, and provide your body plenty of energy, whilst also protecting against infections and viruses.
MCT’s are metabolised by the Liver, and skip straight from the digestive tract. They are absorbed very quickly, which is why they can be used to cure quick hunger cravings. MCT oil can come in a liquid form, and cause disaster pants if consumed in excess. Always work from 1 teaspoon up to 1 tablespoon over the course of a week or so. Trust me, I have experienced all sorts of MCT oil pain.

So there you have it! This recipe has been a sneaky favourite for a lot of my friends. It’s just one of those simple recipes that are good to have up your sleeve.

I loved the flavours in this. I took a guess at the amount of ginger to go in, as ginger is not on the ingredients list, and I used minced ginger from a jar. I also took a guess at the amount of time to cook after the rest of the vegetables go in. I also assumed that the sesame oil was the oil the beef gets cooked in.
Overall, I really enjoyed this meal

Aaron. This looks delish. Trying it tonight as I managed to get some sizzle steak marked down. The weather is heating up here in FNQ, and I’m always on the lookout for recipes that cook up quickly so I can get out of the kitchen. I saw your recipe book at Big W the other day. Congratulations! I’m hoping the kids will get it for me for my birthday or maybe Christmas. Cheers! Paula

Hello Aaron. When I first started Keto a couple of years ago before several health problems including e surgeries, I discovered 2 great things about you: 1 you are an Aussie from Brisbane like me AND in your blurb about yourself you said you ALWAYS answer any questions we may have. This meant you would be my go-to Keto expert. I didn’t need to contact you often then. Now I am recovered from my medical and surgical dramas and back on the wagon.
I now find you don’t even reply to questions asked of you under “comments”. There are 4 here without a response. PLEASE DON’T BECOME LIKE THE OTHERS! YOUR INPUT TO MY LIFE HAS BEEN LIFE CHANGING AND MY CONFIDENCE YOU HAVE MY BEST INTEREST AT HEART. I guess you must be gaining popularity but don’t let it be at our expense.
I asked a question under the Beef and Broccoli recipe and trust you will answer the 4 questions these people have asked as well as mine as mentioned. Please accept this as an encouragement to keep up the good work not a criticism. PS. WE ARE HAVING A VERY WELCOME STORM HERE RIGHT NOW…BUT HUMIDITY WILL RETURN BY TONIGHT! AS YOU SAID. HIT, HOT HOT! ?

Hi Elizabeth,
Great that you live in Brisbane!
The nutritional information is what was provided to me by the clean keto lifestyle cookbook.
I can go ahead and do my own calculations, but considering there is quite a lot of coconut aminos (which is often quite high in carbs), I’d say this is probably pretty accurate.

In step 2 you say to add ginger but the ingredients doesn’t list how much to use?
Also when do you add the paprika and sesame oil?
Amanda says
When do we add the paprika and beef boil ion?
Neil Pierce says
It doesn’t say when to add the sesame oil??
Tom says
You forgot to put ginger in the ingredients list.
